02 24.11.208 Painting starts

Continued from 01 Armistice Day 11/11 at 11am

Monday 24 November 2008 - NPP posters were all over the school with messages such as the one below: Ned is coming...


The blank atrium wall...




Firstly, I put down some black paint and received numerous questions 'why are you painting black'? Because... one of the students, Kate, told me we had been pictured together in the local Mercury newspaper. Headteacher Georgina Livingstone had a copy of the piece...

.... and here's Kate on the right with 3 other students sat in front of some black wall...

Then I started on the rainbow spectrum; violet.


Tuesday 25 November 2008 - Arrived just after 9am, painted through to 4.45pm...




The rainbow background is completed...


Wednesday 26 November 2008 - We started painting on a second wall space by the toilets. Georgina from the The Diss Express phoned, I spoke with her, Caitlin spoke with her and about midday Mark the photographer tuned up. We expect an article on Friday. The kids worked really well today and probably exceeded my expectations...

We had maybe 40-50 of the smaller kids in to put their hand prints over this piece of rainbow coloured wall...


I left it this evening like this...



Apparently, some comments have been made about how the 'wash your hands' cartoon might be 'misinterpreted'. I'm interested to know how it might be interpreted? We all go to the toilet, this wall is next to the toilets and the message 'wash your hands' is surely an important reminder, ama bos ver - never mind. Anyway, I'll change it tomorrow.
